The Paul Butterfield Blues Band "East/West"
I recently read Carlos Santana say that back then (in 1966) he listened to this album 24/7. i thought hmmmm? He said he's pretty much listened to it like that even now! i can tell why. it is one of "THE" critical blues albums that the whole psychedelic rock revolution would absorb. the whole band is ridiculously tight and groovin'. u can hear how everyone from the dead to the stones to hendrix to santana has heard mike bloomfield play guitar on this one. check out trax: get out of my life woman, mary/mary, and east/west. the track east/west is a huge psychedelic masterpiece. it has the indian drones and fusion sounds that would hugely influence that san francisco scene at haight ashbury. mike blookfield died an early death in the years that preceded and like hendrix, left people wondering what he could have done if he didn't die. this album will now be played as long as i live. truly a gem from the past. 5 out of 5 thumbs. check bloomfield out on the Bloomfield - Kooper - Stills Supersession too!
